FLORENCE BIENNALE – INTERNATONAL CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION

The admissions to participate as exhibiting artists to the X Florence Biennale are now open! Candidacies shall be submitted to the International Selection Committee, whose members will examine the curriculum vitae of the applicants and their work portfolio.

An art showcase par excellence, the Florence Biennale has become an outstanding event on the contemporary art scene at the International level. The prestige acquired by this biennial stems from the far-seeing policies lying behind the way in which value and opportunities have been given to the participating artists over the years. Also crucial has been the ability to identify and offer original proposals through innovative curatorial approaches, aimed at presenting artworks within an exhibition path unfolding into ‘tailored’ spaces of display meeting the needs of each and every artist. Overall, the exhibition has turned out to be an engaging environment in which art – in its many different forms and languages – can be interpreted and shared.

During each edition of the Florence Biennale an International Jury composed of renowned scholars, art historians and critics from different countries shall confer the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” International Award to the best artists competing in the different disciplines.

Furthermore, the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Lifetime Achievement Awards are bestowed to outstanding personalities and institutions who achieved the pinnacles of artistic and cultural achievement. In the past edition this award has been conferred to David Hockey, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Richard Anuskiewicz, Gilbert & George, Marina Abramović, Shu Yong, José Luis Cuevas, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, and Anish Kapoor.

Also in the forthcoming edition hundreds of artists from many different countries will have the chance to meet within the framework of a vital, inspiring, and inclusive event, which is attended by an increasingly wider audience.

In collaboration with public institutions, in primis the Municipality of Florence, various collateral events are being prepared with a view to foster virtual dialogue between Florence and the EXPO 2015. Such an undertaking mirrors the Florence Biennale’s commitment to preserve cultural diversity and its wealth of creative expressions.
