Comments: A leading member of the second generation of NYC abstract expressionist painters. Her works are brilliantly colored images based on nature, sometimes showing parts of figures, plants, animals or other objects within the abstract work. Positions: draftsperson, Newark factory, 1943. Spent one year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (1949). Teaching: artist-in-residence, Maryland Inst. Grad. Sch. Painting, 1965-69. Signature note: she signed her early work "George Hartigan."
