Biografie von Robert H. VANCE (1825-1876)

Death place: NYC

Profession: Daguerreotypist

Comments: Best known as the Gold Rush photographer who, in 1849, began making large-scale documentary daguerreotypes in San Francisco and Placerville. In 1851, he exhibited more than 300 of these works in NYC. He sold his San Francisco gallery in 1861 to Charles L. Weed and returned East. His collection is of great historical importance but has never been discovered, and individual works rarely appear at auction.
