Comments: From 1898 until 1906, Lie designed fabric patterns for a textile business while studying evenings at CUA and the NAD. He visited Paris in 1906 and was influenced by the work of Monet. Lie became known for his colorful impressionistic scenes of harbors and coves, painted during the many summers he spent on the coasts of New England and Canada. He also painted for several months on the site of the Panama Canal in 1913, depicting the last days of construction at the canal. Lie was one of the founders of the AAPS, which organized the 1913 Armory Show in NYC.
