Comments: Born John Hazlehurst Boneval Latrobe, he was a son of Benjamin H. Latrobe and his second wife. Latrobe was a leading attorney in Baltimore and also associated with the Baltimore & Ohio Rail Road. He was one of the founders of the Maryland Historical Society in 1844, serving as its president from 1871 until his death and helping to establish the Society's art gallery. Latrobe made sketches of his travels throughout his life, including a trip to New Orleans and Mississippi made in 1834. He was also the inventor of the Latrobe Stove, patented in 1846.
