Comments: Grandson of Paul Revere (see entry). Entered the Navy as a midshipman in 1812; was well-traveled and rose to lieutenant before his retirement in 1850. From 1845-48 he was assigned to California and commanded the party which raised the American flag at Sonoma in July 1846. He was back in California for the Gold Rush in 1949. Revere's Tour of Duty in California (1849), is illustrated by a number of California views from sketches by him. Served during the Civil War as a colonel and brigadier-general in the New Jersey Volunteers. Later settled in Hoboken, NJ.
