Comments: Came to the U.S. c.1857 and settled in Biloxi, MS. He and George Ohr (see entry) were apprenticed at his fathers pottery, coming to New Orleans in the 1860s and working for his father and later for the "New Orleans Art Pottery Co." He was asked by W. Woodward (see entry) and Ellsworth Woodward (see entry) to help set up the Newcomb pottery operation 1893, and he handled all of the pottery throwing, glazing and mechanical work. He was skilled at reproducing pottery shapes and designs drawn by others, and in his career he is credited with throwing 90% of all the Newcomb pottery during that time.
