Comments: Named for a great uncle and a cousin, he was the son of Charles Rollo Peters (see entry) and brother of Charles Rollo Peters III (see entry). As a young man he worked as a writer in NYC for several years, however he gave up writing for painting. In 1944, after serving in WWII, he established a free art school in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, which launched the Haitian art movement. Among his students were Hector Hyppolite, Philome Obin, Rigaud Bemoit, and Tousaint Auguste.
