Profession: Landscape photographer

Comments: A prominent photographer who began his career making hundreds of large photographs during the Civil War and thousands of stereoviews of war scenes for Edward Anthony"s company. After the war he continued to work for Anthony, producing about 15,000 negatives of landscapes throughout the country, including some of the earliest views of the Far West. He was also an inventor, and his breakthrough development in 1886 was the gelatine-bromide photographic paper which gradually displaced the old albumen print paper.
