Biografie von Annibale C. H. de LOUTHERBOURG (1765-1813)

Birth place: Paris, France

Death place: London, England

Profession: Miniaturist

Exhibited: Royal Acad., London, in 1793; possibly at PAFA, 1816 (the painting, "Landscape," was listed by artist's last name only; this could be a work by either Annibale or his father but since Annibale was a miniaturist it is more likely by his father)

Comments: Son of the famous Anglo-French landscape painter, Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg. Came to America in 1794 and established himself as a miniaturist in Philadelphia. In 1796, however, his occupation was given as soap-boiler. In 1798 he was listed as a limner and in that year he probably made a sketch of George Washington's farewell to Congress, although Jackson listed that artist as W. Louterburg. The date of de Loutherbourg's return to England is unknown. Also appears as De Loutherbourg.
