Comments: A close friend of Whistler, he carried on the master"s etching style and was regarded as one of the leading etchers in America. He was also highly regarded for his pen & ink drawings. Author: Life of James McNeill Whistler, The Whistler Journal(with Mrs. Pennell), Modern Illustration, The Graphic Art Series, and The Graphic Arts, Scammon Lectures. His illustrations appeared in Magazine of Art, Art Journal, and Century. In all, he wrote or illustrated about 100 books. Taught at the ASL.
