Biografie von Francis Scott KEY (XIX)

Profession: Wood engraver

Comments: Mrs. Jessie Benton FrÈmont states in her discussion of the plates for FrÈmont's Memoirs of My Life that the engravings on wood of views taken on his 1853 expedition were done "by an artist young then, a namesake and grandson of Frank Key, the author of the èStar Spangled Banner."" It is very possible that the artist was actually John Ross Key (see entry), grandson of Francis Scott Key.
