Comments: Although he painted a wide variety of subjects early in his career, by the 1870s he had focused upon the coastal scenes for which he is best known. Many of his paintings are of the coasts of Massachusetts and Maine. Rehn was among the very few who did not study in Europe. A popular artist, he exhibited annually at the National Academy for thirty-five years.
