Biografie von Paul RUDOLPH (1918-1997)

Birth place: Elkton, KY

Death place: NYC

Addresses: NYC

Profession: Architect

Studied: AL Polytech. Inst., 1940 (B.Arch.); Harvard, 1947 (M.Arch.)

Comments: A modernist architect of the 1960s, his buildings were often executed in concrete and finished with a rough vertical texturing that was likened to corduroy, and later widely copied. While his buildings show the influence of Le Corbusier and German expressionist architects, their severe forms often attracted controversy. In 1969, student protesters set fire to his major work, Yale"s Art & Architecture Building; it was later rebuilt. He was chairman of Yale"s School of Architecture, 1957-65.
