Comments: Pioneering abstract painter. Dove worked as an illustrator for Collier's, The Saturday Evening Post, Scribner's, Century, Harper's, and Life before going to Paris in 1908. He remained there until 1909 becoming acquainted with modern art. Returning to the U.S., Dove became part of Stieglitz's circle. One of the earliest American artist's to explore non-representational painting, Dove's approach to abstraction was always rooted in his response to natural forms and real objects.
