Art Paris Just Art: 31 March – 3 April 2011

[22.03.2011]

Art Paris returns to its usual venue, the impressive Nave of the Grand Palais, where it will welcome around 48,000 visitors over four days. Doors will open to the general public on 31 March.

Paris has a tradition as an essential capital for culture that the organisers of Art Paris intend to dust down while at the same time respecting its roots. For two editions the fair has searched for an identity and now its managers, Lorenzo Rudolf, Julien Lecêtre and Jérome Lefèvre, have decided to open up the event up to new experiences.
In its 2011 edition, Art Paris will not only retain its focus on contemporary art, modern art and design with 118 international galleries on show but also this year it will be clearly more open and alive, with exhibition projects what will live on after the fair has closed. Regular attendees will be on familiar ground with the presence of masters of modern art such as Joan MIRO, Pablo PICASSO and Fernand LÉGER, classic exponents of contemporary art including Jean-Michel BASQUIAT, Keith HARING and Andy WARHOL, emblematic names from the contemporary French movements including Robert COMBAS, Rémy BLANCHARD and François BOISROND and a panorama of current creation from 17 represented countries.
Alongside the usual offering, the fair will decorate the walls of the Grand Palais with Move for life, an event conceived as a socio-political initiative designed to take art out of its usual surroundings and send it on a journey around Europe. To this end, a solid cast of artists consisting of Robert RAUSCHENBERG, Joep VAN LIESHOUT, Daniele BUETTI, Jochen GERZ, Mark TITCHNER, Damien DEROUBAIX, Isabel MUÑOZ and BEN, each created an artistic message for a lorry on sensitive subjects such as poverty, violence, AIDS, racism and environmental destruction. On 1 March, the eight lorries will set out from the Grand Palais on an artistic European journey that will last throughout 2011.

Artprice will attend this first major art fair of the year in Paris and, for the occasion, will offer a report on the contemporary art market in France. The report, which is bilingual in French and English, will be distributed to the press and to the visitors to Art Paris, and will also be available for free on the Artprice.com website from the day the Art Paris fair opens in all the languages of the website.
