Contemporary artist, Charles Pachter is known for his bold imagery. In this piece the Toronto born painter, sculptor, historian and author has chosen to paint brilliant red ripe tomatoes. This is a pop art ‘twist’ on a classic still life; the subject stripped down to its essential lush quality. ‘Love apples—’ tomatoes represent bounty, fertility and youth.

Pachter is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal.
