“The houseboat – Magic Town" Circa 1969 49,5x72cm Oil on cardboard signed on verso in cyrillic. From a set of works from a private collection in London in public auction. Ukrainian artist, his poetic vision had to adapt to the political censorship imposing a message, an aesthetic and denying individuality. His rationalist and analytical vision was inspired by Picasso who had the advantage of being a communist, Rouault and Ukrainian culture.
The collectivist tendencies and the "conformist" subjects slowed him down to work on his rare creations. Studies at the School of Applied Arts in Lviv 1958-63. State Institute of Applied Arts & Design in Lviv 1964-70. Numerous collective decorative and monumental works of the Lviv Artists' Workshop. To remain an independent and creative personality during the period of the Soviet bloc was not trivial. The Iron Curtain did not offer artists the advantages of Western culture.
