Werksbeschreibung

Emile Aubry, celebrated for his intricate portraits, captivated wealthy American women seeking to sit for the Algerian-born artist. He ardently depicted mythological and biblical themes in the art deco style.

"Bathsheba" portrays a nude woman in a lush garden, attended by servants, with deer nearby. Inspired by the Old Testament, it narrates David's enamorment with Bathsheba. Aubry's palette boasts forest green, gold, royal blue, turquoise, and burgundy.

Born in 1880 in Algeria, Aubry studied at Paris's Beaux-Arts. His gold medal at the 1920 Salon for "The Lady in Black" propelled his fame. He undertook significant projects like Algiers Opera House and Paris's 5th District Town Hall. A member of the Institut de France (1935), he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais (1905-1937). Aubry passed away in 1964, leaving a cherished legacy in private and public collections.
